The National Park Service has closed Santa Rosa Island off the Southern California coast after bundles of marijuana were found there.
Officials believe the marijuana discovered Tuesday on the island off Ventura County is linked to a maritime smuggling attempt.
The Ventura County Star reports law enforcement officers from several agencies are conducting aerial and ground searches on the island looking for possible suspects.
The park service said Wednesday that Santa Rosa, part of Channel Islands National Park, will be closed until further notice.
The newspaper says the closure could affect more than 70 people booked on an island backpacking trip this weekend.
Authorities didn’t say how much marijuana was found, or who found it.
