Hillary Clinton has revealed in statements she has made that she would keep marijuana federally illegal, but reduce it from Schedule I to Schedule II in the controlled substances act.
“The problem with medical marijuana is, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence about how well it works for certain conditions,” Clinton opined. “But we haven’t done any research. Why? Because it is considered what is called a Schedule I drug, and you can’t even do research in it.”
It’s not a particularly progressive stance for the conservative democrat though, as many people correctly pointed out that plenty of research has been done by people in other countries with more relaxed laws on researching cannabis.
Of course, rescheduling would have some positive effects, such as disregarding the claim that pot has ‘no therapeutic or medical use’, but when states are legalizing across the country, Clinton is too little, too late here.
